Learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. Do you agree or disagree?
Some people believe that learning about the past has no value for those of us living in the present. I do not agree. I believe that the past is very important teacher for us living today. One reason is that we can avoid same mistakes we have made before.
For example, learning about the disasters brought by World War I and World War II, people take care about peace more than before. So, the past is very important for us now.
Another reason is that the past helps us to achieve more achievements. That is today, we are competing not only with each other, but also with the past. For instance, in the Olympic Games, there are many records waiting for us to challenge. The new records soon become the past and will challenge the participants in the future.
Another example is most textbooks are the achievement from the past, and studying is sort of learning about the past and incorporating the knowledge into the present. Therefore, the past can help us a lot in today's life.
After all, I believe that learning about the past has good value for us living in the present; we can get much benefit from the past.
